The Palau Forge in Ripoll was founded as an iron forge in the 17th century and remained active for four centuries until 1978. In addition to being the only forge in Catalunya that still produced copper pieces until the second half of the 20th century, the most unique feature of the Palau Forge is its two original hammers.
In 1997, the Museu Nacional de la Ciència i la Tècnica de Catalunya (MNACTEC) acquired the Palau Forge and it is currently one of the Museum's headquarters.
The industrial complex is organized into two spaces. In the first we find the forge, with the water pipes, the hammers, the coal shed, the oven and the furnace. Separated from the workshop, there is the water wheel, the ditch and the pond that was used to store the water from the Freser River, move the wheel and generate the continuous air that gives its name to the Catalan forge method.
A visit to the Forge allows you to learn about the facilities and the operation of this space originally used for obtaining and producing iron. The facility has an access system that allows you to visit independently by purchasing the ticket at the reception of the Ethnographic Museum of Ripoll.
The Farga Palau de Ripoll has an access system that allows you to visit the heritage site independently and freely.
To visit it freely, you must purchase an entrance ticket to the Ethnographic Museum of Ripoll, where you will be provided with the access code to the Forge.
